Communities in the Morona basin express support for the reactivation of Lot 64

During the meeting held on June 18, with multisectoral participation in the town of Puerto Alegría, representatives of Indigenous organizations from the Morona basin, local authorities, and state entities expressed their support for the reactivation of Lot 64, located in the province of Datem del Marañón, Loreto region.

The meeting was attended by the mayor of the Morona district, Karin Najar Yumbalo; the provincial mayor of Datem del Marañón, Wellinton Silvano Alván; and Congressman Juan Carlos Mori Celi, along with representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), Perúpetro, Petroperú, and various Indigenous federations in the area.

In the minutes signed at the end of the meeting, attendees reaffirmed their support for the development of the project, which includes environmental remediation, labor inclusion, formalization of communal enterprises, social investment in health and education, and respect for collective rights.

Likewise, the political will of local authorities to promote equitable and coordinated development with the communities was reaffirmed. In this regard, a request was made to maintain a climate of peace and ongoing coordination between the State, companies, and Indigenous peoples to ensure the success of the reactivation process for Lot 64.

Petroperú, which currently holds a 100% stake in the license contract for hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation in Lot 64, is currently seeking a strategic partner to assume the role of operator, with a willingness to cede part of its stake in said contract.
