North Peruvian Pipeline faces eighth illegal connection

Petroperú has identified an eighth clandestine connection on the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP) at kilometer marker 821+544, in the Sechura district and province, Piura department. A pipe connected to the main pipeline was discovered at the site; this incident is classified as an act by third parties.
In response, Petroperú activated its Emergency Response Plan, mobilizing specialized personnel to take appropriate action and address the situation resulting from this criminal act. As part of the measures taken, the closure of the manual valve located at kilometer marker 792 of Section II of the ONP was confirmed.
This incident brings the total number of clandestine connections identified in the Sechura Desert area since June to eight. This situation poses a threat to the safety of the ONP—classified as a National Critical Asset—necessitating stronger prevention, surveillance, and protection measures by the authorities.
Petroperú reported the incident to the Parachique police station and is coordinating with relevant entities, including OSINERGMIN, OEFA, the General Directorate of Hydrocarbons (DGH), the National Intelligence Directorate (DINI), and the Comprehensive Security Directorate (DIRSEINT), among other institutions involved in protecting this strategic infrastructure. Furthermore, the company will file a criminal complaint with the local prosecutor's office and request an official inspection of the site by the prosecutor.
It should be noted that Section II of the ONP has been out of operation since July 12, 2024, due to low crude oil inventory levels.
The company reiterates its concern regarding these ongoing attacks and renews its call for enhanced security for this National Critical Asset.
