Petroperú activates contingency response plan for the North Peruvian Pipeline

Petroperú has activated its emergency response plan following the detection of a crude oil leak at kilometer 15+524 of Section I of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), located in the Urarinas district, Loreto province, in the Loreto region.
As part of its initial response, the company has deployed personnel and equipment to carry out containment efforts, including the installation of barriers to prevent the spread of the crude oil, which is currently contained within the pipeline’s containment channel.
The causes of the incident are under investigation. It should be noted that, according to available technical records, the segment where the incident occurred showed no previously identified anomalies that would pose a risk to the pipeline's integrity.
Petroperú has filed a report with the Peruvian National Police (PNP) and has requested an official inspection by the public prosecutor's office. Consequently, police officers have been dispatched to the site to conduct the necessary investigative procedures. The incident has also been reported to the Agency for Environmental Assessment and Enforcement (OEFA) and the Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin).
Over the past five years, 16 incidents attributed to third-party interference have been recorded along this section of the North Peruvian Pipeline. The most recent prior incident in Section I occurred in 2022, at kilometer 15+476.
