Petroperú clarifies the situation regarding the alleged oil spill in Iquitos

Petroperú addresses the public opinion to inform the following:

  1. On May 14, Petroperú sent specialized personnel to the area called Quebrada Ramírez, adjacent to the Iquitos Refinery, in response to an alleged crude oil spill, as reported by a resident of the area, through their social networks.
  2. No hydrocarbon was found at the site, much less the presence of dead fish, as the complaint stated.
  3. On May 15, both the Crime Prevention Prosecutor's Office, as well as representatives of the Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin), visited the area without finding evidence of the incident.
  4. Likewise, on May 17, the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA) inspected the site, where it took samples to be evaluated. The conclusion after the visit to the area was that the presence of hydrocarbons or dead fish was not observed in the Quebrada Ramírez.
  5. Petroperú ratifies its firm commitment to the populations surrounding its operations and the care of the environment, which is why it calls on the population not to be surprised by these types of complaints that do not correspond to the truth.
