Petroperú Controls Crude Oil Leak Caused by Third Parties on the North Peruvian Pipeline

Petroperú has controlled a crude oil leak caused by a perforation in the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP) tubing, carried out by third parties. The incident was detected at kilometer 393 of the ONP (Section II), in the district of Santa María de Nieva, Condorcanqui province, Amazonas region.

Upon learning of the incident at approximately 07:40 hours today, the Emergency Response Plan was activated through specialized company teams and contractors, successfully sealing the pipe and stopping the oil leak. Furthermore, it was verified that the leak was caused by a perforation made with a mechanical tool.

Additionally, Petroperú will initiate the necessary actions to execute First Response efforts, in compliance with the Environmental Protection Regulations for Hydrocarbon Activities, as well as coordination with communal authorities.

Petroperú has informed the competent authorities, such as OEFA and Osinergmin, regarding these events and has filed the corresponding legal actions with the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office (FEMA). It should be noted that Section II has been shut down since July 12, 2024, due to low crude oil inventories at Station 5.
