Through a virtual ceremony, broadcast live through the Petroperú Fanpage, the award ceremony for the winners of the XXII Short Story Biennial and VIII Essay Biennial “2022 Copé Award” was held.

During the event, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Petroperú, Carlos Vives Suárez, highlighted the permanent contribution made by the company to the cultural development of the country and pointed out that the winners are worthy representatives of this contest, which -he said- on this occasion has been more competitive than ever, given the magnificent literary qualities of each of its participants.

"As has been the case for more than 40 years, Petroperú will continue to promote this contest and encourage reading programs, since we are aware that a population that reads is a population that progresses," he told the audience that followed the broadcast of the award ceremony.

On the other hand, he took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the support provided in disseminating the contest in the various Peruvian diplomatic missions in the world, as well as answering questions about the contest from our compatriots abroad.

In this edition, David Del Águila Quevedo, first place in the short story category, was awarded for his work "Días de prueba esperando a Paradise" and Jorge Valenzuela Garcés, winner of the Gold Copé Essay Award, for his work "Un mundo precario. Ensayo sobre la obra y la escritura de Franz Kafka”.

Also awarded were Christian Elguera Olortegui, who won the Silver Copé Short Story Award for his work “El último sortilegio de Fernando Pessoa” and Reynaldo Santa Cruz Cabrera, winner of the Bronze Copé Short Story Award for his work “Tribus urbanas”.

It should be noted that both the winning and finalist work in the short story category, and the winning essay in the essay category will be published by Petroperú under the Ediciones Copé seal and will form part of the book distribution plan undertaken by the state company on an annual basis, in its permanent and constant work of implementation of libraries throughout the country.

The Copé Award is a literary contest organized and promoted by Petroperú since 1979. It is recognized for being the highest award of Peruvian letters; in addition to being noted for its constant promotion and dissemination of literature and research in general throughout the country.
