Petroperú warns about an increase in clandestine connections to the North Peruvian Pipeline

Between June and the beginning of July, five illegal connections have been identified on Section II of the ONP pipeline in Sechura (Piura), prompting Petroperú to urge authorities to strengthen the protection of this strategic infrastructure.

Given the increase in clandestine connections installed by criminal gangs for the illegal extraction of crude oil, Petroperú is urging the relevant authorities to reinforce the protection of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), an infrastructure classified as a National Critical Asset (ACN). Today, Monday, July 27, a new clandestine connection was detected on Section II in the province of Sechura, Piura region.

This new illegal tap was located at kilometer 805+886 of the ONP and adds to four others recently detected at kilometers 790, 806, 815, and 835 of the same section. Between June and the beginning of July alone, five clandestine connections have been identified in this area, causing environmental incidents and generating significant costs for the company.

The alert was triggered after a pressure drop was detected by the SCADA system in the Bayóvar Terminal's Control Room. Patrols were immediately deployed to the area, and the Puerto Rico Police Station was notified to activate the Emergency Response Plan. During the inspection, a metal structure with eight pipes welded to the pipeline was found, along with a hose approximately 280 meters long, which had been used to transport the illegally extracted crude oil to a tanker truck.

As part of the established protocol, Petroperú notified the relevant authorities, including Osinergmin, OEFA, the National Intelligence Directorate (DINI), and the Peruvian National Police, so that they could take appropriate action.
