San Marcos students learn hydrocarbon processes in Conchán Refinery

Chemistry and Chemical Engineering students from the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) visited the facilities of the Conchán Refinery, south of Lima, to learn more about the processing of fuels in highly complex industrial plants.

Mr. Javier Chavarría, from the Process and Project Engineering Unit of the aforementioned plant, spoke about the productive scheme of refining and blending; the different types of fuels that are processed (such as industrial oil and diesel), as well as the process for manufacturing asphalts. Special mention should be made of the explanation offered on the high quality of PETROPERU gasolines that care for the environment, since they contain a low sulfur content.

Likewise, the students deepened their knowledge about the hard work of social management carried out by the state oil company with the community close to the Conchán Refinery, emphasizing the supervisory role carried out by the Participatory Socio-Environmental Monitoring Committee, formed by residents of Villa El Salvador, to be aware of the studies of air and soil quality.

The students also received a technical talk by Ing. Andrés Galiano, from the Operations Unit of the Operations Department, who explained to them about the work done at the plant using corporate software to schedule the production. He also commented on the processing of fuels, the use of process furnaces that run on natural gas and the production volumes of the refinery.

PETROPERU carries out these technical visits to its operations as part of its social management policy, which is geared towards integration with its stakeholders through the dissemination of the work carried out in its facilities, respecting the environment and the community.
