The Talara Refinery does not affect the electricity supply of the Piura region

Regarding today's publication of the newspaper El Comercio, which points out to the Talara Refinery an alleged responsibility for the electrical situation in the Piura region, Petroperú clarifies the following:

  1. The supply of electricity in Peru is carried out through the National Interconnected Electrical System (SEIN), whose operation and dispatch of energy are the responsibility of the Economic Operation Committee of the System (COES), under the supervision of the Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin).
  2. The natural gas distribution system in Piura is in charge of the company Gases del Norte del Perú S.A.C. (Gasnorp), within the framework of a concession contract regulated by Osinergmin. In turn, the supply of natural gas to industrial consumers, including the Talara Refinery, depends exclusively on the commercial agreements established with producers.
  3. Currently, the Talara Refinery uses natural gas from batches I, VI and Z-69 for its operations, as part of process optimization.
  4. Enel Generación Piura obtains the supply of natural gas directly from producers in the northern region with whom it has current contracts. It also has the possibility of operating through its cold reserve (diesel) to support its generation. The decision regarding the mode of operation of the Malacca Thermal Power Plant is the sole responsibility of the generating company and does not depend on Petroperú.
  5. Petroperú has an efficient management of its operations and the production of the highest quality fuels in the modern Talara Refinery, which currently supplies all of Peru.
