Iquitos Refinery strengthens energy security in the Amazon with new storage infrastructure

Petroperú has strengthened operations at the Iquitos Refinery by adding 1.68 million gallons of fuel storage capacity for diesel and gasoline, increasing its autonomy and responsiveness to meet the energy demands of the Peruvian Amazon.
This upgrade is crucial for a region with unique characteristics in the country, where logistics depend primarily on the Amazonian rivers and can be affected by climatic factors, such as periods of low water levels that hinder the transport of goods and products.
The Iquitos Refinery plays a fundamental role in supplying fuel to Loreto, San Martín, and parts of Ucayali, contributing to the economic and social development of a region facing significant connectivity challenges.
A strategic asset for the Amazon
Located in the province of Maynas, on the banks of the Amazon River, this operation has a processing capacity of up to 12,000 barrels of crude oil per day and supports essential services such as electricity generation, river transport, productive activities, and air connectivity.
The Iquitos Refinery plays a strategic role for the Peruvian Amazon, especially in Loreto, a region not connected to the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) and which relies primarily on liquid fuels to ensure the energy supply for homes, hospitals, businesses, and industries.
It also supplies the fuel needed for vessels connecting communities along the Amazonian rivers — the region's main mode of transportation — as well as Turbo A-1 used in civil and institutional air operations, contributing to the integration and service of remote and border areas.
With these actions, Petroperú reaffirms its commitment to guaranteeing the timely supply of fuels and contributing to the economic and social development of the Peruvian Amazon.
