Criminal gangs intensify crude oil theft from the pipeline, causing environmental emergencies in Sechura

Petroperú reports that a new clandestine connection has been identified at km 815 of Section II of the Norperuano Pipeline, in the province of Sechura, Piura region. This is the third case recorded in less than a week, after the events reported at kilometers 790 and 806.
These illegal connections are installed for the illicit extraction of crude oil and have generated environmental contingencies that require the immediate activation of the company's response protocols, as well as the mobilization of specialized personnel, equipment and materials to the affected areas.
The two clandestine connections previously detected were located at kilometers 790 and 806 of Section II of the North Peruvian Oil Pipeline. In the first case, an illegal metal structure was found with seven tubes attached to the pipeline for crude oil extraction. In both events, Petroperú activated its Emergency Response Plan and made the corresponding communications to the competent authorities and supervisory bodies.
Today, Petroperú filed the respective complaint with the Puerto Rico police station of the Piura Police Region (REGPOL), which was attended to with registration number 35557254, for the respective investigations. Likewise, communications have been made to the supervisory bodies within the deadlines established by law.
Petroperú rejects this type of illegal actions that affect the integrity of the Norperuano Pipeline, an infrastructure considered a Critical National Asset. Likewise, it reiterates its concern about the high incidence of clandestine connections in the area between Sechura and Olmos.
The company will continue to act in accordance with its safety protocols, environmental response and communication with the competent authorities, in order to address these contingencies and contribute to the protection of this strategic infrastructure for the country.
