Petroperú activates preventive measures against possible impact on the ONP in Loreto

Yesterday, May 19, Petroperú received a report of the presence of hydrocarbons in the Pijuayal stream, located near kilometer 315 of Section II of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), in the district of Manseriche, Datem del Marañón province, Loreto region. The company immediately activated its Contingency Plan and began coordination with the indigenous communities to allow technical personnel to enter the affected area.

Specialized personnel with equipment and materials were mobilized to the contingency zone to reinforce the existing containment barriers and assess the source of the hydrocarbon.

As a reminder, Section II of the ONP has suffered four attacks this year caused by intentional perforations of the pipeline, verified by the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin), the Peruvian National Police, and the Public Prosecutor's Office, through the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Environmental Matters (FEMA).

Petroperú urges authorities to continue taking action to identify and punish those responsible for the successive attacks and reiterates its willingness to engage in dialogue with the communities to facilitate the entry of technical personnel and the implementation of the corresponding response tasks.

It also emphasizes that the ONP is a Critical National Asset that must be protected by the relevant authorities to prevent continued attacks that compromise its integrity, the sustainability of its operations, the preservation of the environment, and good relations with neighboring communities.
