PETROPERÚ delivered the 2019 Copé Award

- Alejandro Neyra Sánchez won the Copé Gold in Story and Johnny Barbieri Camposano won the Copé Gold in Poetry.
- Tribute was paid to Pedro Cateriano, creator of the award in 1979.
- The call for the 2020 Copé Award was also held.
PETROPERÚ delivered the 2019 Copé Award

In a well-attended ceremony, the awards were presented to the winners of the VII Biennial of Novel and XIX Biennial of Poetry 2019 Copé Award, the most important literary competition in the country, organized by PETROPERU for 40 years.

In this edition, the Gold Copé Award of the VII Biennial of Novel was presented to the writer Alejandro Neyra Sánchez for his work "Mi Monstruo Sagrado". Additionally, the novels "El Tiempo Ausente", by Crisanto Pérez Esain and "Hombre de Paja", by Max Daniel Crespo Loayza were recognized as Honorable Mention.

For his part, "Expediente Vallejo", by Johnny Barbieri Camposano, received the Gold Copé Award at the XIX Biennial of Poetry. While the poets James Ricardo Quiroz Biminchumo, for "En los bosques de infiinita música" and Luz Karen Vila Solier, for "Las primeras estaciones", were recognized with the Silver and Bronze Copé, respectively.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of PETROPERU, Carlos Paredes Lanatta, highlighted the Company's contribution to the country's cultural development. "Convinced that initiatives like this strengthen our identity and cultural creativity, PETROPERU has been strengthening the Copé Award to continue supporting the literary and creative process of the best exponents of our country," he said.

 

During the ceremony a well-deserved tribute was paid to Pedro Cateriano Delgado, who in 1979 proposed and promoted the Copé Award, which in the end has become the emblematic literary award of Peru. Cateriano is a leading poet and journalist.

The writer and literary critic Ricardo González Vigil was in charge of providing the words of recognition to Cateriano. He highlighted his passion for literature and the cultural world, which is reaffirmed with his work as a jury during the last 40 years of the Copé Award.

At the end of the ceremony the launch of the following call was made, the VII Biennial of Short Story and XXI Biennial of Essay 2020 Copé Award.
