PETROPERU evolves towards efficiency, digital transformation and sustainability

"PETROPERU Evolves" took place live through the YouTube virtual platform and had more than 400 guests, including clients, authorities, investors, representatives of the financial sector, banking, unions, as well as representatives of various institutions and companies. At the meeting, the Chairman of the Board, Eduardo Guevara Dodds, together with the General Manager, Carlos Barrientos Gonzales, announced the profound changes that the state-owned company has been implementing in recent years and the projects that it has been executing to continue on the path of the modernization through which it has been passing to be more efficient and sustainable.

Guevara Dodds began his participation by recalling the important strategic role that PETROPERU plays. "Less than a week ago, a very complicated year for the country and the world ended, in which, despite everything, we have fulfilled our strategic role of supplying fuel to the country, along with the other companies in the hydrocarbon sector," he said. .

In turn, the General Manager of PETROPERU, Carlos Barrientos Gonzales, highlighted the actions that were taken in 2020 to face the COVID-19 pandemic and the global hydrocarbon crisis, in which PETROPERÚ had a drop in sales of up to 70%, but it never stopped operating and supplying the country. Among the actions taken, he pointed out that the budget was reduced by S/ 2,300 million, as a result of savings, but also of efficiencies that have been achieved during what he considered the worst of the crisis. In this way, the impacts produced by the economic consequences of the pandemic have been reduced.

“In the middle of last year the situation changed and the international price of crude oil began to slowly recover, always with its unpredictable ups and downs; While as of July 2020, our sales in the domestic market began to improve thanks to the fact that the Government gradually and progressively began the reactivation of the economy. Today we are in the clear process of recovery. And this event is part of that process of strengthening and business evolution”, he stressed.

For his part, Guevara recalled that “we have just assumed with pride, responsibility and optimism the concession of the natural gas distribution system to 12,300 homes in the cities of Arequipa, Moquegua, Ilo and Tacna. An important assignment that allows us to enter the natural gas business and which points the way towards our project of strengthening PETROPERÚ as an energy company”. In this sense, and as part of the Company's commitment to environmentally responsible management, he stated that PETROPERU is preparing to venture into the use and application of renewable energies.

Likewise, the President of the state oil company referred to the upcoming start of operations of the new Talara Refinery, which is scheduled to take place at the end of this year, as well as the return of PETROPERU to oil exploitation in lots 64 and 192; "One of the largest production in the country and in both cases will operate in alliance with private partners," he added.

While Carlos Barrientos highlighted the progress in the digital transformation of the Company. “We have implemented the virtual party table, we universalize the use of the digital signature and the electronic document processing system, all of which streamline administrative processes and improve service to citizens, customers and suppliers. We are generalizing SAP for administrative management, and we are training staff to use all the applications and facilities offered by systems such as Office 360," he said.

Likewise, the senior official continued, “this year we will create an integrated center for real-time monitoring of operations, to make faster decisions and with higher information quality. We will incorporate SAP Fieldglass, to optimize contract management, synchronizing processes with ERP, for administrative, operational and financial control and management. We will open the Calls and Offers Portal, providing transparency from the call and receipt of offers online, for the contracting processes; as well as the Customer Service Portal on the fuel purchases website for optimal service at plants and terminals, among others”.

At the end, and taking up the floor again, the Chairman of the Board, Eduardo Guevara, highlighted that Corporate Governance has been strengthened with an Integrity System led by an independent entity. “We have declared zero tolerance for corruption” and “gender equality, diversity and inclusion are promoted; including the formation of a Committee against Sexual Harassment”, he remarked.

In this way, the Chairman of the Board concluded, the change in PETROPERU's visual identity is much more than a simple image change. “It reflects the profound transformations that are taking place in the Company to guide it along the path of continuous improvement and excellence in management. It implies an internal cultural change and the approach to our customers and consumers of the service station network, with new products and better services”, he pointed out.
