Petroperú reinforces preventive measures to guarantee operational continuity in the face of possible effects of the El Niño phenomenon

In light of forecasts regarding the potential occurrence of El Niño, Petroperú reaffirms its commitment to the continuity of its operations and comprehensive risk management by strengthening and implementing its prevention and contingency plans at all its facilities nationwide.
Between 2023 and 2026, the company carried out structural and preventative work, prioritizing the Talara Refinery, as well as its sales plants and terminals located in the northern part of the country, considered one of the areas most exposed to hydrometeorological events. These interventions aim to reduce the vulnerability of the infrastructure and mitigate potential impacts from heavy rains and flooding.
The actions undertaken are part of an ongoing maintenance and prevention program that includes cleaning and conditioning drainage systems, restoring and protecting supports and structures, and improving strategic access points for the technical inspection of pipelines in ravine areas and other highly vulnerable sectors. Measures have also been implemented to preserve the operational capacity of critical infrastructure during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall.
These efforts aim to prevent damage to the facilities at the Talara Refinery, the Tablazo Tank Farm, and other operational areas in Talara, strengthening their capacity to respond to extreme weather events and contributing to the safety of operations.
In line with the emergency declaration issued by the relevant authorities in anticipation of the potential arrival of El Niño, Petroperú activated its Rainfall Committee, the body responsible for coordinating and implementing the actions outlined in the Prevention Plan. This document establishes the guidelines for reducing risks and protecting facilities, with the goal of ensuring operational continuity and minimizing potential impacts on the company's activities.
Thanks to the strengthening of its infrastructure, the ongoing maintenance of its facilities, continuous monitoring of operating conditions, and coordination with the relevant authorities, Petroperú maintains an adequate capacity to respond to adverse weather scenarios. In this way, the company reaffirms its commitment to the safety of people, the protection of the environment and the timely supply of fuels for the benefit of the country.
