Sixth clandestine connection affects the North Peruvian Pipeline in Sechura

Petroperú detected a new illegal connection at kilometer 825+620 of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), in the province of Sechura, Piura region. The illicit intervention resulted in a perforation of the pipeline and a crude oil leak that affected the surrounding area.
This is the sixth illegal connection identified between June and the present day, adding to those detected at kilometers 805, 790, 806, 835, and 815 of the ONP. In this latest case, no evidence of crude oil theft was found; however, the pipeline perforation created an emergency that required immediate attention.
In response, Petroperú activated its emergency response plan to control the leak, repair the pipeline, and carry out cleanup and remediation work in the affected area.
Tools allegedly used to make the illegal connection were found at the site, including a drill and shovels. The affected point is located in a desert area of Sechura, far from populated centers.
The company will report the incident to the regulatory agencies and file a complaint with the competent authorities so that the corresponding investigations can be carried out and responsibilities determined.
Petroperú will continue to implement surveillance and response measures to protect the integrity of the ONP, a strategic infrastructure for the transportation of hydrocarbons in the country.
Given the repeated occurrence of clandestine connections to the North Peruvian Pipeline, Petroperú has requested that the competent authorities intensify control and investigation efforts to identify and punish those responsible for these illegal acts.
